We Are the Night
Short description
Lena, a young woman living on the margins of society, is turned into a vampire by Louise, the leader of a trio of female vampires. While Lena initially embraces the luxury, parties, and total freedom that come with her new eternal life, she soon becomes distressed by the violent bloodlust of her companions. Conflict intensifies as Lena develops romantic feelings for Tom, a young police officer investigating the group's crimes.
Directed by Dennis Gansel, this German-French co-production was released in 2010. It follows his earlier works, including The Wave, and precedes later projects such as Mechanic: Resurrection and The Tank. The screenplay was written by Gansel and Jan Berger. The film stars Karoline Herfurth as Lena Bach, Nina Hoss as Louise, and Max Riemelt as Tom Serner, with Jennifer Ulrich and Anna Fischer rounding out the vampire trio.
The film had a budget of 7 million USD but earned 2 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is mixed but generally positive, with a rating of 6.2/10 on IMDb from 9,200 votes and 6/10 on TMDB from 317 votes.
