Fubar II

Terry Cahill and Dean Murdoch, two friends with more enthusiasm than ambition, leave Calgary for Fort McMurray in northern Alberta to find work in the oil industry. The promise of good money in the oil patch draws them north, though neither is naturally suited to hard labour. Between long days on the job and nights filled with beer, parties and loud machinery, the pair settle into a life that suits them. Their routine is disrupted when Terry falls for Trish, a waitress, and the relationship pushes him toward fatherhood and serious debt, while Dean receives news that forces him to consider a different future.

Michael Dowse directed the film and wrote the screenplay with stars Paul Spence and David Lawrence, who play Dean and Terry. It is the second outing for these characters after the 2002 mockumentary Fubar, though this instalment drops the documentary format. The film sits second in the chronological list of Dowse's directed features, between It's All Gone Pete Tong and Take Me Home Tonight. The supporting cast includes Terra Hazelton as Trish, Rose Martin as Rose Murdoch and Matthew Brennan as Dean's Dealer, among 41 credited performers. The film runs 85 minutes.

Released in Canada in October 2010, Fubar II was made by FU2 Productions on a modest scale. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.6 from around 1,800 votes, while on TMDB its average is 5.8 from a much smaller number of votes. The difference in vote volume is considerable, and the audience response on IMDb points to a steady following for the characters.
