Star Kid

Spencer Griffith is a shy seventh-grade student whose life changes after a meteorite lands in a local junkyard. There, he discovers a Cybersuit, a powerful and intelligent robotic suit from another galaxy. This technology was created by a peaceful alien race to combat a ruthless army of invaders. To keep the weapon out of enemy hands, the aliens sent the prototype to Earth. When Spencer wears the suit, he gains new abilities and must help the robot adapt to Earth. However, the alien enemies eventually track the suit to the planet, bringing a galactic war to Earth and forcing the boy to fight to save the world.

Directed and written by Manny Coto, this 1997 film followed his previous projects, Playroom and Dr. Giggles. The movie stars Joseph Mazzello as Spencer Griffith, with Richard Gilliland, Corinne Bohrer, and Alex Daniels in supporting roles. Produced by Jennie Lew Tugend and created through Trimark Pictures, JLT Productions, and Manny Coto Productions, the film had a budget of 12 million USD but earned 7 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is mixed, with a 5.3 rating on IMDb based on 3,300 votes and a 6.6 rating on TMDB from 121 votes. These scores are similar to the 5.4 rating provided by film critics.
