S.W.A.T.: Firefight

S.W.A.T.: Firefight follows a Los Angeles police lieutenant, Paul Cutler, who is sent to Detroit to train the local S.W.A.T. unit in anti-terrorism and hostage rescue methods. He clashes with his new captain and meets resistance from the officers he is meant to instruct, while also growing close to a police psychologist. What begins as a routine call turns disastrous, and a former government operative named Walter Hatch holds Cutler and the whole team responsible for the death of a woman he loved. Protected by figures within the government, Hatch turns his skills against the officers, and Cutler has to draw on his training to keep his teammates alive.

The film is directed by Benny Boom, the first of the two features he has made, followed by All Eyez on Me. Reed Steiner wrote the screenplay, and Neal H. Moritz and Amanda Lewis produced for Original Film, Stage 6 Films and RCR Media Group. Gabriel Macht plays Cutler, with Robert Patrick as Hatch, Carly Pope as Kim Byers, Giancarlo Esposito as Inspector Hollander, Kristanna Loken as Rose Walker and Matt Bushell as Danny Stockton. It runs 89 minutes.

Made for about 8 million dollars, the film belongs to the direct-to-video strain of the S.W.A.T. series rather than the earlier big-screen entry. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.7 out of 10 from 417 votes, a middling figure that suggests a modest reception from viewers.
