Short description

Dead Space: Aftermath is an animated science fiction horror film set in the year 2509. After Earth loses contact with the mining ship Ishimura, a rescue vessel called the O'Bannon is sent to investigate, and it too goes silent. A second ship later finds the O'Bannon drifting damaged among asteroids, its interior littered with the mutilated bodies of the crew. A squad boards the vessel, discovers four survivors hiding in an engine compartment, and destroys the ship before transporting them for interrogation. Through the testimony of those four people, the film fills in what happened aboard the O'Bannon and connects the storylines of the video games Dead Space and Dead Space 2.

The film was directed by Mike Disa, its screenplay written by Brandon Auman, and its voice cast includes Christopher Judge, Peter Woodward, Kari Wahlgren, Ricardo Chavira, Gwendoline Yeo and Curt Cornelius. It followed Disa's Dante's Inferno: An Animated Epic and Hoodwinked Too! Hood VS. Evil, and sits third among the five features listed as his directed work. Made on a budget of about 3 million dollars by Gotham Group, Starz Media, Film Roman and Electronic Arts, it runs 85 minutes.

Audience response has been moderate. On IMDb it holds 5.4 out of 10 from roughly 4,900 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 out of 10 from 216 votes. Both figures suggest a modest reception rather than a widely embraced one.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on the "Dead Space" computer game series (2008–present, Visceral Games).
