All Star Superman follows Superman after he is exposed to a lethal dose of solar radiation, the result of a scheme by Lex Luthor. With his cells degenerating and only a limited time left, he keeps his condition to himself while continuing his work as Metropolis's protector. Much of that remaining time goes toward settling unfinished business, above all revealing his true identity to Lois Lane and confronting Luthor once more.
The animated film adapts the comic series written by Grant Morrison and drawn by Frank Quitely. Sam Liu directed it from a screenplay by Dwayne McDuffie, with Bruce Timm producing for Warner Bros. Animation, DC Entertainment and DC Comics. The voice cast includes James Denton as Superman and Clark Kent, Christina Hendricks as Lois Lane, Anthony LaPaglia as Lex Luthor, Ed Asner as Perry White, Linda Cardellini as Nasthalthia Luthor and Matthew Gray Gubler as Jimmy Olsen. It runs 76 minutes and was made for about 4 million dollars. It is the seventh of 22 films Liu has directed, between Batman: Year One and Justice League: Gods and Monsters.
The film was released in 2011. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.8 from around 18,000 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.9 from 579 votes. Those scores place it in moderately positive territory with audiences, falling short of the highest marks in the DC animated line while still finding a consistent viewership.
