Crazy Alien follows Geng Hao, a monkey trainer whose stage act falls apart when an alien spacecraft crashes to Earth and his monkey is injured. Unable to perform, he seizes on the stranded visitor as a substitute, and he and a fellow entertainer mistake the creature for a rare bald monkey. They take away its telekinetic device and set about training it. The alien, who holds humanity in contempt, endures their efforts until it recovers its powers and turns the tables.
The film is directed by Ning Hao, his sixth feature, arriving between Breakup Buddies and My People, My Country. He shares producing duties with Wang Yibing, while the screenplay comes from Wu Nan, Dong Runnian and Xing Aina. Huang Bo plays Geng Hao and Shen Teng plays Da Fei, with Xu Zheng providing the alien. Matthew Morrison, Tom Pelphrey and Daniel Hugh Kelly appear as Captain Zach Andrews, John Stockton and the President of the United States. The production was handled by Huanxi Media Group.
