Knight Moves

Knight Moves centres on Peter Sanderson, a chess grandmaster competing in an international tournament on a small island. When a woman close to him is found murdered, he becomes the leading suspect. The killer then contacts him directly, turning the investigation into a kind of game and leaving clues with each new victim, so that Sanderson works with the police and a psychologist to try to anticipate the murderer's next move while suspicion continues to hang over him.

The film is a mystery thriller directed by Carl Schenkel, released in 1992 as the fourth of the features he directed, following Out of Order, The Mighty Quinn and Silence Like Glass. Brad Mirman wrote the screenplay, and Christophe Lambert plays Sanderson, with Diane Lane as Kathy Sheppard, Tom Skerritt as Frank Sedman, Daniel Baldwin as Andy Wagner and Ferdy Mayne as Jeremy Edmonds among a credited cast of thirty-three. It was made as a co-production between Germany, Canada and the United States on a budget of nine million dollars.

Audience response has been mixed: on IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.1 from around 9,800 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8 from 254 votes. A critics' rating of 3.7 from six reviews places it clearly below both audience scores.
