Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster are drawn back to Santa Barbara when their former police chief, Carlton Lassiter, is ambushed and left for dead. The two return to help him, and their involvement pulls them into a case that touches on his private life, his work at the department, and matters that appear to go beyond the ordinary. The film continues the comedy-crime series created by Steve Franks, following the characters from the television show about a man who pretends to have psychic abilities while solving cases with his best friend.
Steve Franks directed, as he had the earlier film in the series, Psych: The Movie, from 2017, and shares screenplay credit here with James Roday Rodriguez and Andy Berman. Roday Rodriguez and Dulé Hill reprise their leading roles, with Timothy Omundson as Lassiter, Maggie Lawson as Juliet O'Hara, Corbin Bernsen as Henry Spencer and Kurt Fuller as Woody Strode. The film runs 89 minutes.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from around 8,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7 from roughly 155 votes. A film critics' rating of 8.2 from 13 reviews places it somewhat higher than those audience scores. The relatively small number of reviews and votes reflects a release aimed mainly at viewers who already know the series.
