Daddy Longlegs

Lenny is a man in his mid-thirties who has been living on his own for months. Each year he takes his two young sons, Sage and Frey, for a couple of weeks, and this time he collects them from school and brings them to his small studio apartment in midtown Manhattan. Over the fortnight that follows, he struggles with how to position himself in their lives, torn between acting as a father and behaving like a friend. A trip upstate with the boys sets off a stretch of disorder that overturns their daily routine.

Daddy Longlegs is a 2010 comedy-drama from the United States and France, directed by Benny Safdie and Josh Safdie, who wrote the screenplay with Ronald Bronstein. It was Benny Safdie's second feature, after The Acquaintances of a Lonely John, and Josh Safdie's first; both went on to make Heaven Knows What, Good Time and Uncut Gems. Bronstein plays Lenny, with Alex Greenblatt, Sage Ranaldo, Frey Ranaldo, Eléonore Hendricks and Lee Ranaldo among the cast. Casey Neistat and Tom Scott produced.

The film runs 100 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.9 from around 3,400 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.6 from a much smaller pool of 62. The gap in vote numbers suggests a modest but settled audience, with viewers on IMDb responding somewhat more warmly than the smaller group on TMDB.
