Jiu Jitsu

Jiu Jitsu is a 2020 action, fantasy and science fiction film directed by Dimitri Logothetis, who also co-wrote it with Jim McGrath. For thousands of years, a secret order of martial artists has defended Earth from an alien race that returns every six years to challenge them. This time, the order faces a particularly dangerous opponent, and the outcome of the contest will decide humanity's survival. A decorated fighter named Jake is defeated and left with no memory of who he is, and a new generation of the order, including Wylie, Kueng and Carmen, has to help him recover and prepare for the decisive confrontation. Alain Moussi plays Jake, with Nicolas Cage as Wylie, Tony Jaa as Kueng, JuJu Chan as Carmen, Eddie Steeples as Tex and Marie Avgeropoulos as Myra among a credited cast of 21.

The film is the fourth feature directed by Logothetis, arriving after Kickboxer: Retaliation in 2018 and before Gunner in 2024, and he also produced it alongside Martin J. Barab and Euthymios Logothetis. Made with a budget of 23 million US dollars and shot in Cyprus and the United States, it runs 102 minutes.

Reception was weak across the board. On IMDb the rating stands at 2.9 out of 10 from around 11,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 4.7 out of 10 from 668 votes. A film critics' rating of 3.8 out of 10 from 48 reviews places professional response below the audience figure on TMDB, and well under the IMDb average. The large gap between the two audience scores suggests the film found little favour with either viewers or critics.
