Undine

Undine works as a historian and tour guide at a museum in Berlin, where she specialises in the city's urban development. When the man she has been seeing leaves her, an old myth seems to close in on her: according to it, a woman betrayed in love must kill the man who wronged her and return to the water she came from. Undine resists that fate. She meets Christoph, an industrial diver, and the two form a close bond founded on their shared connection to water, though her past continues to weigh on the relationship.

Christian Petzold wrote and directed the film, which followed Transit in 2018 and came before Afire in 2023 within his filmography. Paula Beer plays Undine and Franz Rogowski plays Christoph, with Maryam Zaree, Jacob Matschenz, Anne Ratte-Polle and Rafael Stachowiak in supporting roles. Florian Koerner von Gustorf and Michael Weber produced the German-French co-production, which runs 89 minutes.

The film took about 1 million USD at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from around 10,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 292 votes. A critics' rating of 7.3 out of 10, drawn from 143 reviews, is noticeably higher than either audience score.
