Junior

Junior is a comedy about a medical researcher who becomes the first pregnant man. Dr. Alex Hesse and his colleague Dr. Larry Arbogast have developed a drug intended to help women avoid miscarriage, but when funding for their work is cut, they look for another way to test it. Larry implants a frozen fertilized egg in Alex's body, and Alex agrees on the understanding that the pregnancy will last only a few months. He ends up carrying the child to term while working alongside Dr. Diana Reddin, a specialist in egg freezing, without telling her what he is doing.

Ivan Reitman directed and produced the film, working from a screenplay by Kevin Wade and Chris Conrad. It was his ninth film as director, following Dave in 1993 and preceding Fathers' Day in 1997. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Alex, with Danny DeVito as Larry, Emma Thompson as Diana, and Frank Langella, Pamela Reed and Aida Turturro in supporting roles, among a credited cast of 75. The production, from Universal Pictures and Northern Lights Entertainment, had a budget of 60 million dollars and took about 108 million dollars worldwide.

Audience response was modest. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 4.8 from around 78,000 votes, and on TMDB it scores 5.2 from roughly 1,700 votes. A critics' rating of 4.9 from 35 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
