Redeeming Love

Redeeming Love is a period drama set against the California Gold Rush of 1850. Angel, a young woman sold into prostitution as a child, has learned to expect cruelty from the men around her and believes she deserves nothing better. When she meets Michael Hosea, a farmer who is convinced he is meant to marry her, the encounter forces her to confront her self-hatred and the life she has been trapped in. The story follows the pair as Angel struggles to accept the love Michael offers and to decide what kind of future she is willing to claim for herself. The film is based on Francine Rivers' novel and was directed by D. J. Caruso, who also wrote the screenplay with Rivers.

The cast includes Abigail Cowen as Angel and Tom Lewis as Michael, with Eric Dane, Famke Janssen, Logan Marshall-Green and Nina Dobrev in supporting roles. It was released in January 2022 and runs 134 minutes.

Made for a budget of 30 million dollars, Redeeming Love earned about 9 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.8 from roughly 20,000 votes, while on TMDB it averages 7.9 from around 775 votes, indicating that the smaller group of viewers there responded considerably more warmly than the larger IMDb audience. A critics' rating of 4 out of 10 from 28 reviews places professional assessment well below both audience scores. The film sits between xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Shut In in Caruso's filmography.
