Black Rainbow

Black Rainbow centres on Martha Travis, a travelling medium who performs before paying audiences across the southern United States. Accompanied by her father and manager Walter, she claims to put grieving relatives in touch with their dead, though her act is essentially a performance. During one show she passes on a message to a woman named Mary Kuron from her husband Tom, who is not dead yet. Martha's vision extends further than the death itself: she can describe the man responsible, and that man learns she knows. A newspaper reporter begins looking into the case, and his interest draws Martha and her father into serious danger.

Mike Hodges directed and wrote the film, which followed A Prayer for the Dying and came before Croupier in the run of features he made. Rosanna Arquette plays Martha, with Jason Robards as Walter and Tom Hulce as the journalist Gary Wallace; Mark Joy, Ron Rosenthal and John Bennes appear in supporting roles, and the production lists 52 credited cast members. Goldcrest backed the project on a budget of seven million dollars. It runs 103 minutes and belongs to the horror, mystery and thriller genres.

On IMDb the film holds 6 out of 10 from around 2,300 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 out of 10 from 49 votes, a modest level of approval from audiences who have sought it out.
