God Bless America

Frank has lost his job, his marriage has ended, and he may be terminally ill; disgusted by the cruelty and stupidity he sees in American culture, he takes up a gun and sets out to target the people he considers the worst of society. He finds an unexpected ally in Roxy, a sixteen-year-old who shares his anger and contempt for the shallow, sensational world around them. Together they carry out a spree that includes reality television figures and bigots, and the media attention they attract turns them into the kind of spectacle they despise.

Bobcat Goldthwait wrote and directed the film, which followed his 2009 feature World's Greatest Dad and preceded Willow Creek and Kyle Kinane: Dirt Nap. Joel Murray plays Frank, with Tara Lynne Barr as Roxy and Melinda Page Hamilton, Mackenzie Brooke Smith, Rich McDonald and Maddie Hasson among the supporting cast; the credited cast runs to 66 people. Sean McKittrick and Jeff Culotta produced for Darko Entertainment and Jerkschool Productions, and the film runs 104 minutes.

Released in 2012, the film drew a critics' rating of 6.2/10 from 112 reviews, while audiences rated it slightly higher, at 7.1/10 on IMDb from around 74,000 votes and 7/10 on TMDB from roughly 1,100 votes. It is a dark comedy that mixes crime and drama.
