My Policeman

In nineteen-fifties Brighton, Marion, a schoolteacher, meets Tom, a policeman, and the two marry. Tom is drawn instead to Patrick, a museum curator, at a time when relationships between men were illegal. Hoping to avoid suspicion, Tom goes ahead with the marriage while Patrick remains part of the couple's life, an arrangement that holds until a decision brings it down. Four decades later, in the late nineties, the now elderly and unwell Patrick moves into the home Marion and Tom share, and his presence forces the three of them to confront what happened between them.

The film is directed by Michael Grandage, whose earlier features include Genius and a recorded staging of National Theatre Live: Red; it adapts Bethan Roberts's novel. Ron Nyswaner wrote the screenplay, and Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Robbie Rogers produced. Gina McKee, Linus Roache and Rupert Everett play the older Marion, Tom and Patrick, with Emma Corrin, Harry Styles and David Dawson as their younger selves. The 113-minute drama was released in October 2022.

Reception was mixed. Critics rated it 5.7 out of 10 across 149 reviews, while audiences were warmer: on IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from roughly 26,000 votes, and on TMDB it stands at 7.5 out of 10 from a much smaller group of about 789 voters.
