After Ever Happy continues the story of Tessa Young and Hardin Scott, whose relationship has been strained by everything they have learned about each other and about their families. A revelation about their parents forces both of them to see that they have more in common than either expected. Hardin struggles with his temper and his self-destructive tendencies, while Tessa is no longer the naive, trusting student she was when they first met. Much of the film turns on whether she should keep trying to rescue him or start looking after herself, and whether the two of them can stay together at all.
The film is directed by Castille Landon, who also made After We Fell the year before and would go on to direct After Everything and Perfect Addiction. It was written by Sharon Soboil and produced by Jennifer Gibgot, Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon. Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin return as Tessa and Hardin, with Carter Jenkins, Louise Lombard, Chance Perdomo and Rob Estes among the supporting cast of around thirty credited performers.
Made for about 14 million US dollars, the film took roughly 19 million worldwide. Audiences are divided: on IMDb it holds 4.6 out of 10 from nearly ten thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.8 from about fourteen hundred.
