Love Again
Short description
Mira Ray struggles with the death of her fiancé by sending romantic text messages to his former phone number. Unbeknownst to her, the number has been reassigned to Rob Burns, a journalist who is moved by the sincerity of the messages. While tasked with writing a profile on the superstar Céline Dion, Rob seeks the singer's assistance to find a way to meet Mira in person and pursue a relationship with her.
The film was written and directed by Jim Strouse, following his 2017 project The Incredible Jessica James. The cast features Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan in the lead roles, with Céline Dion appearing as herself in her first cinema role. Other cast members include Sofia Barclay, Russell Tovey, and Lydia West.
Produced by Thunder Road, Screen Gems, and 2.0 Entertainment, the movie had a budget of 9 million USD and earned 10 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is mixed, with a rating of 5.9/10 on IMDb based on 19,000 votes and 6.7/10 on TMDB from 498 votes. Film critics gave the movie a lower score of 4.5/10 based on 47 reviews.
What's left behind the scenes
- The man with whom Priyanka Chopra Jonas's character, Mira, has a disastrous date was played by the actress's husband, Nick Jonas. According to her, she read the script and immediately told her husband that he would have to play the role because she wouldn't be able to film that scene with anyone else.
- Sam Heughan's character is named Bob Burns, just like the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns (1759-1796).
- Nick Jonas, who appeared in a cameo role, was the only American in the cast of the film, despite the story taking place in New York. The movie was filmed in the UK, so it proved cheaper to cast British actors and hire a linguist to help them master American accents than to bring American actors to the UK.
