The Cold Light of Day

Will Shaw, a young Wall Street trader, travels to Spain to join his family on a sailing holiday. When he returns to the yacht after an outing ashore, he finds the boat empty and traces of a struggle: his mother, brother and girlfriend have been taken. His search for them draws him into a government conspiracy and forces him to confront the fact that his father, Martin, has been living a double life as an intelligence agent. Intelligence operatives are after a briefcase, and Will has little time to work out what connects the disappearance of his family to his father's secrets.

The film is the second feature directed by Mabrouk El Mechri, following JCVD (2008). Trevor Macy, Scott Wiper and John Petro wrote the screenplay, and Marc D. Evans, Garrett Basch and Trevor Macy produced. Henry Cavill plays Will, with Bruce Willis as Martin, Sigourney Weaver as Jean Carrack, Verónica Echegui as Lucia, Joseph Mawle as Gorman and Caroline Goodall as Laurie Shaw heading a credited cast of thirty. It is a Spanish-American co-production from Summit Entertainment, Intrepid Pictures, Film Rites and Galavis Film, running 93 minutes.

Released in April 2012, the film had a budget of 20 million USD and took about 25 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 4.9/10 from 41,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.4/10 from 1,009 votes. A film critics' rating of 2.9/10 from 49 reviews places it clearly below both audience scores.
