Twixt

Hall Baltimore is a horror novelist whose career has faded, and his book tour now takes him only to small towns. In one such town, recently shaken by a killing attributed to a serial killer, the local sheriff draws him into the case of a young woman's death. That night he is visited in a dream by the ghost of a girl who calls herself V. Convinced the murder and the apparition are connected, he also sees in the story material for a new book, and his search for answers leads him through his own past and toward the writer Edgar Allan Poe.

Francis Ford Coppola directed and wrote the film, and produced it through American Zoetrope. It is the twenty-fourth of the twenty-six films he has directed in chronological order, arriving between Tetro and The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. Val Kilmer plays Hall, with Elle Fanning as V., Bruce Dern as Sheriff Bobby LaGrange, Ben Chaplin as Poe, Joanne Whalley as Denise and David Paymer as Sam. Twenty performers and fifty-six crew members are credited.

Made for about seven million dollars and running eighty-eight minutes, the film mixes fantasy, horror and mystery. On IMDb it holds 4.8 out of 10 from roughly thirteen thousand votes, and on TMDB 5.1 out of 10 from a few hundred. A critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from twenty-three reviews places critical and audience responses at a similar level.
