Yavarum Nalam follows Manohar, a young engineer who moves with his family into a new apartment building, into a flat on the thirteenth floor. The household settles into what looks like an ordinary life, but small oddities begin to accumulate around them, and the television becomes the focus of strange events. A daily serial called Sab Khairiyat, which no one else seems to receive, appears to mirror what is happening in the family's own home.
Vikram Kumar wrote and directed the film, his first feature, arriving eight years before his second, Hello!. Suresh Balaje produced it for Reliance Entertainment, BIG Pictures and Wide Angle Creations. R. Madhavan plays Manohar, with Neetu Chandra as his wife Priya, Sachin Khedekar as Dr. Balu, Ravi Babu as Shiva, Murali Sharma as Shiva in the Hindi version, and Saranya Ponvannan as Manohar's mother. Twenty-three cast members are credited, and the film runs 137 minutes.
Released in March 2009, the Tamil-language horror mystery divides its audience: on TMDB it holds a rating of 6.4 out of 10 from 89 votes, a modest score suggesting a mixed but not dismissive response.
