Short description

The Almond and the Seahorse follows two couples whose lives are altered by traumatic brain injury. Sarah, an archaeologist, and Toni, an architect, have never met, but a tragic event links them: both find themselves caring for partners whose minds no longer hold on to the past in reliable ways. Gwen believes it is always 1999, and the man she wakes beside each day is a stranger to her. Joe's memory is coming apart, and Sarah fears that she is slipping from it. A doctor treating them refuses to give up on either couple.

The film is a British drama directed by Tom Stern and Celyn Jones, the first of two features they made together, followed by Madfabulous in 2026. Jones wrote the screenplay with Kaite O'Reilly, adapting O'Reilly's play of the same name. The cast includes Rebel Wilson as Sarah, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Toni, Trine Dyrholm as Gwen, Celyn Jones as Joe and Meera Syal as Dr. Falmer, with 42 credited performers in all. It runs 95 minutes and was released in December 2022.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.4 from 623 votes, indicating a modest and divided response from those who have seen it. On TMDB it stands at 4.9 from a much smaller sample of 15 votes.
