Fingernails

Anna and Ryan are a couple whose love has been confirmed by a controversial procedure: a test that compares a fingernail from each partner and delivers a verdict. Despite the result, Anna is not fully convinced, and when she takes a job at the institute that administers the test, she meets Amir, a colleague whose presence unsettles what she thought she knew about her own relationship.

The film is directed by Christos Nikou, who wrote the screenplay with Stavros Raptis and Sam Steiner. It is his second English-language feature, following his debut feature, and it was produced in part by Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton through Dirty Films, with Nikou also credited as a producer. Jessie Buckley plays Anna, Riz Ahmed plays Amir, Jeremy Allen White plays Ryan, and Luke Wilson appears as Duncan. The cast and crew listings run to 23 credited performers and 61 credited crew members.

Fingernails was released on October 27, 2023, and runs 113 minutes. It blends comedy, drama, romance and science fiction, and was made as a co-production between the United Kingdom and the United States by FilmNation Entertainment, Dirty Films and Apple. Reception was moderate across the board: critics gave it 6 out of 10 from 142 reviews, while audiences rated it 5.8 out of 10 on IMDb from around 10,000 votes and 5.9 out of 10 on TMDB from 234 votes.
