Butter
Short description
Set in a small town in the American Midwest, this comedy centers on a local competition for butter sculpting. Laura Pickler, an ambitious woman who previously relied on her husband's status as a champion in the craft, decides to enter the contest herself to achieve fame and wealth. The story blends several plotlines involving local politics and personal conflicts.
The film was directed by Jim Field Smith, following his earlier work on She's Out of My League. The cast is led by Jennifer Garner, Yara Shahidi, Hugh Jackman, Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, and Alicia Silverstone. Produced by Michael De Luca, Jennifer Garner, and Alissa Phillips, the movie features a total of 33 credited cast members.
Audience reception was moderately positive, with a rating of 6.2/10 from 23,000 votes on IMDb and 5.9/10 from 433 votes on TMDB. These viewers were more generous than film critics, who gave the movie a lower rating of 4.7/10 based on 65 reviews.
What's left behind the scenes
- One of Laura and Bob's conversations takes place against the backdrop of a butter sculpture depicting a man pointing at something. This is a copy of the statue of Vince Lombardi (1913-1970), the legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers football team, located near the entrance to Lambeau Field stadium in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
- Kate Hudson was initially cast as Brooke, but she left the project, and the role went to Olivia Wilde.
