Lady Chatterley's Lover

Based on D. H. Lawrence's novel, this British-American drama centres on Connie Reid, an aristocratic woman whose marriage to Sir Clifford Chatterley becomes unbearable after he returns from the First World War paralysed and distant. Confined to his country estate, she grows close to the housekeeper, Mrs. Bolton, while her husband treats her more as a servant than a wife. When Clifford's condition leaves their relationship without physical intimacy, Connie begins a secret affair with Oliver Mellors, the estate's gamekeeper. The relationship awakens her to desire and affection she had not expected, but as gossip spreads through the neighbourhood, she must choose between the life her position demands and the man she has come to love.

Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directs, following her debut feature The Mustang (2019) with this second film. David Magee wrote the screenplay, and Laurence Mark, Graham Broadbent and Peter Czernin produced. Emma Corrin plays Connie, with Jack O'Connell as Mellors, Matthew Duckett as Clifford, Joely Richardson as Mrs. Bolton, and supporting turns from Faye Marsay and Ella Hunt. The production brings together British and American companies and runs just over two hours.

The film drew a film critics' rating of 7/10 from 91 reviews, while audiences rated it 6.6/10 on IMDb from around 27,000 votes and 6.7/10 on TMDB from roughly 540 votes. Critics therefore responded somewhat more positively than general viewers, though both groups placed it in similar, moderately favourable territory.
