Dolph Springer wakes one morning to find that his dog, Paul, has vanished. His search for the animal draws him into a series of encounters with strange people: Emma, who delivers pizzas, his neighbour Victor, and a detective named Ronnie, as well as a figure known as Master Chang. What begins as a hunt for a missing pet gradually unsettles Dolph's own grip on his life and identity. The film is a comedy with a mystery running through it, set in the United States, and it was shot in both the United States and France.

Quentin Dupieux directed and wrote the film, which was produced by Josef Lieck, Charles-Marie Anthonioz and Gregory Bernard under the Realitism banner. It is the third of sixteen features he has directed in chronological order, arriving after Rubber in 2010 and before Wrong Cops in 2013. Jack Plotnick plays Dolph, with Eric Judor as Victor, Alexis Dziena as Emma, Steve Little as Detective Ronnie, Bob Jennings as the Rear Ender Driver, and William Fichtner as Master Chang.
