Get Low

Get Low is set in Tennessee during the 1930s, where Felix Bush has lived alone in the woods for decades. Rumours surround him: some say he has killed men, others that he is a sorcerer. He rarely comes to town, so his arrival is noticed, and the reason for it causes a stir. Felix wants to hold his own funeral while he is still alive, and he asks funeral director Frank Quinn to arrange it. He intends to hear what people say about him and to settle something from his past, including his connection to the recently widowed Mattie Darrow.

The film was directed by Aaron Schneider, working from a screenplay by C. Gaby Mitchell and Chris Provenzano. It was his first feature, followed in 2020 by Greyhound. Robert Duvall plays Felix, with Bill Murray as Frank Quinn, Sissy Spacek as Mattie, Lucas Black as Buddy, and Bill Cobbs and Gerald McRaney as Reverend Charlie Jackson and Reverend Gus Horton.

Made with German, Polish and American production backing, Get Low took about 11 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7 out of 10 from roughly 25,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.7 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes, and a critics' rating of 7.2 out of 10 from 141 reviews places it slightly above the audience scores.
