Short description
You're Next is a horror thriller about the Davison family, who gather with relatives and partners at an isolated country house to celebrate the wedding anniversary of parents Aubrey and Paul. Tensions among the siblings surface during the reunion, but the evening is interrupted when a group of masked attackers armed with crossbows and axes descends on the property. Cut off from help, the family is hunted through the house, and the intruders soon discover that one of the guests, Erin, the girlfriend of the eldest son, has a hidden past that makes her far more capable of fighting back than they expected.
The film was directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett. It followed Wingard's segment in the anthology V/H/S and arrived before several further features, including The Guest, Blair Witch, Death Note and the two Godzilla and Kong films. Sharni Vinson plays Erin, with Nicholas Tucci, Wendy Glenn, AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg and Margaret Laney among the family members.
Produced for about 1 million dollars, the film took roughly 14 million dollars worldwide. It holds a rating of 6.6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 119,000 votes and the same score on TMDB from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 160 reviews places professional and audience reactions closely in line.
What's left behind the scenes
- On September 21, 2011, Lionsgate studio announced that it had acquired the rights to distribute the film in the United States, Great Britain, and Canada.
- The film was shot back in 2011 and shown at a couple of film festivals, but it had a wide release only in August 2013.
- In the credits, the position of production accountant is misspelled ("accountain" instead of the correct "accountant").
- The amount of blood on the piano strings increases each time after a cut.
- Immediately after he is killed, Paul lies on the floor with his mouth wide open. When his body is shown again later, his mouth is closed.
- After Felix stabs Drake in the chest five times with knives, at the moment when he is lying on the basement floor, a protective shield that Drake is wearing under his sweater can be noticed.
