A ten-year-old girl named Kali lives in Mumbai with her mother and stepfather, a senior police officer, following her parents' divorce. When she spends a Saturday with her father Rahul, an out-of-work actor, she vanishes from his car while he is briefly away. Rahul becomes a suspect in her disappearance in the eyes of the police, but he joins the search himself.
Anurag Kashyap directed and wrote this crime drama, which sits between his two-part Gangs of Wasseypur saga and later films such as Madly and Lust Stories. Ronit Roy plays the stepfather, Shoumik Bose; Rahul Bhat is the father, Rahul Kapoor; Tejaswini Kolhapure is the mother, Shalini; and Vineet Kumar Singh, Girish Kulkarni and Surveen Chawla round out the cast.
The film was released in 2013 and runs 128 minutes. Made on a budget of about one million dollars, it took roughly twice that back worldwide, a modest commercial result. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.9 from about 25,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 7.1 from a much smaller number of votes. The gap reflects a more limited sample on the latter.
