Alice, Darling

Alice, Darling is a psychological drama about a woman trapped in a controlling relationship. Alice, played by Anna Kendrick, has learned to hide the toll her boyfriend Simon takes on her, presenting a composed front even to her closest friends. When her childhood friends Tess and Sophie arrange a week away together in the countryside, Alice initially hesitates, then lies to Simon about where she is going so she can join them. Away from him, cracks in her carefully maintained facade begin to show, and her friends start to understand what she has been concealing. Simon's response to her deception sets up a confrontation that tests Alice's resolve and the loyalty between the three women.

The film was directed by Mary Nighy, working from a screenplay by Alanna Francis, and was produced by Noah Segal, Christina Piovesan and Katie Bird Nolan. Alongside Kendrick, the cast includes Wunmi Mosaku as Sophie, Kaniehtiio Horn as Tess and Charlie Carrick as Simon, with twenty credited cast members and 143 credited crew. Shot with a budget of four million dollars, it runs ninety minutes and was released at the end of December 2022.

Audience responses on IMDb and TMDB sit at 5.6 out of 10, based on roughly fifteen thousand and several hundred votes respectively, while a film critics' rating stands higher at 6.8 out of 10 from 124 reviews. The gap suggests critics responded more favourably to the film than general viewers did.
