Artie and Diane Decker are a retired couple who agree to look after their three grandchildren while the children's parents are away for work. The arrangement quickly becomes a clash of outlooks. Alice, the mother, has raised her children on tight schedules, homework and organized activities, and she expects her father to follow the same approach. Artie and Diane have their own ideas about how children should spend their time, and the household turns into a contest between two generations, with the grandchildren testing how far they can push.
Andy Fickman directed the film from a screenplay by Lisa Addario and Joe Syracuse. It is the sixth of the twelve features Fickman has directed, arriving between You Again and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. Billy Crystal and Bette Midler lead as Artie and Diane, with Marisa Tomei as Alice, Tom Everett Scott as Phil, and Bailee Madison and Joshua Rush among the grandchildren. Crystal also produced alongside Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark. The credited cast runs to 46 names.
Made for a budget of 25 million dollars, the film took about 120 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from roughly 28,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from around 500 votes. A critics' rating of 4 out of 10 from 89 reviews places it noticeably below the audience scores.
