Che: Part Two

Che: Part Two picks up after the Cuban Revolution, when Ernesto "Che" Guevara has reached the height of his fame and influence. He then vanishes from public life, resurfacing in Bolivia under a false identity. There he works to build a small guerrilla force made up of Cuban comrades and Bolivian recruits, hoping to set off a wider revolutionary movement across Latin America. The campaign meets resistance from an indifferent local population, an unsympathetic communist party and a military that hunts his group through the mountain forests. The film follows the efforts of Che and his fighters as their situation grows increasingly isolated.

Steven Soderbergh directed this second half of his two-part portrait of Guevara, following Che: Part One the same year and preceding The Informant! in 2009. It is the sixteenth of the thirty-five films he has directed. Benicio del Toro plays Che and also produced alongside Laura Bickford; the screenplay is credited to Peter Buchman, Benjamin A. Van Der Veen and Terrence Malick. The cast includes Carlos Bardem, Demián Bichir, Joaquim de Almeida, Pablo Durán and Eduard Fernández, among 98 credited performers.

Made for a budget of 40 million USD, the film took about 2 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.8 out of 10 from roughly 36,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.6 from 714 votes. Film critics gave it 6.8 from 51 reviews, closely matching the audience scores.
