Gomorrah

Gomorrah is an Italian crime drama set in and around Naples and Caserta, where the Camorra controls much of daily life. Based on Roberto Saviano's book, the film follows several people caught up in the organization's reach: an aging money handler who delivers payments to the families of imprisoned members, two reckless young men who stumble onto a weapons stash, a boy whose errand-running draws him into complicity, a graduate pulled into the illegal dumping of toxic waste, and a tailor courted by rival businesses. Drug trafficking, construction, prostitution and killing shape the choices available to them, and most find that disobedience is not a real option.

Matteo Garrone directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Saviano and Maurizio Braucci; Domenico Procacci produced it. It followed Garrone's earlier features The Embalmer and First Love, and preceded Reality, Tale of Tales, Dogman, Pinocchio and Io Capitano. Toni Servillo, Gianfelice Imparato, Maria Nazionale, Salvatore Cantalupo, Gigio Morra and Marco Macor are among the credited cast of seventy-eight. The film runs 137 minutes and was released in 2008, taking about 35 million dollars worldwide.

Audiences rate it at 7 out of 10 on IMDb, from roughly 53,000 votes, and 6.9 out of 10 on TMDB, from more than 1,300 votes. A critics' rating of 8 out of 10, drawn from 155 reviews, places professional assessment noticeably above the audience scores.
