Passages

Passages follows Tomas, a German film director living in Paris with his husband, Martin. As one of his projects wraps up, Tomas begins an impulsive affair with Agathe, a young schoolteacher, and the openness with which he treats the relationship unsettles the life he and Martin have built over many years. When Martin starts an affair of his own, Tomas is forced to reckon with jealousy and with the question of whether his marriage can continue on its old terms or must change altogether.

The film is directed by Ira Sachs, who wrote the screenplay with Mauricio Zacharias. It is the fourth of Sachs's features in the chronological sequence listed for him, arriving between Little Men and Peter Hujar's Day. Franz Rogowski plays Tomas, Ben Whishaw plays Martin and Adèle Exarchopoulos plays Agathe, among a credited cast of twenty-two. Saïd Ben Saïd and Michel Merkt produced the German-French production, which runs 92 minutes.

Passages earned a critics' rating of 8 out of 10 from 186 reviews, while audiences have been cooler: on IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from around 15,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 out of 10 from about 250 votes. Worldwide box office reached roughly 1 million USD.
