Anna Chen has spent seven years in prison for killing her husband during a violent quarrel. When her mother dies, she receives a three-day furlough to travel to Seattle for the funeral, temporarily leaving the life she has built behind bars. On the bus she meets Hoon, a Korean immigrant working as a gigolo who is fleeing the angry husband of a wealthy client. He asks her for money for his ticket, and the brief encounter between two isolated people turns into a shared journey across three days.
Late Autumn is a 2011 drama and romance directed by Kim Tae-yong, who also wrote the screenplay. It is the first of the two films he has directed to date, followed by Wonderland in 2024. The production was a collaboration between companies in Hong Kong, China, the United States and Korea, with Cho Sung-woo, Yoo Eun-jung and Shi Nansun producing. Tang Wei plays Anna and Hyun Bin plays Hoon, with supporting roles from Jun Kim, John Wu, Danni Lang and Katarina Choi.
Made for about six million dollars, the film took in roughly the same amount at the worldwide box office, so it did not recoup more than its production cost during its theatrical run. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.8 from around 2,400 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.7 from about 74 votes, indicating a generally favorable but moderate reception among viewers, with a small but consistent audience response across both platforms.
