Broken Arrow

Broken Arrow follows two U.S. Air Force pilots whose training flight in a stealth bomber carrying two live nuclear warheads turns into a betrayal. Major Vic Deakins seizes the weapons and threatens the government, leaving his co-pilot, Riley Hale, to stop him. Hale survives being ejected over the Utah canyon country and teams up with park ranger Terry Carmichael to recover the warheads before Deakins can carry out his threat.

John Woo directed the film, the eleventh of the twenty-two features he has directed in chronological order, arriving between Hard Target and Face/Off. Graham Yost wrote the screenplay, and Mark Gordon, Terence Chang and Bill Badalato produced. John Travolta plays Deakins opposite Christian Slater as Hale, with Samantha Mathis as Carmichael and supporting turns from Delroy Lindo, Frank Whaley and Bob Gunton. Thirty-seven cast members and 134 crew members are credited.

Made for about 50 million dollars, the film took roughly 150 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its production cost. Audiences rate it modestly: on IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from around 110,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6.1 out of 10, from far fewer votes. A critics' score of 5.5 out of 10 from 34 reviews places professional assessment slightly below the audience average, with both falling in middling territory for a studio action release of its era.
