A Jazzman's Blues is a drama set in the American South, following a forbidden romance and the family secrets that surround it across four decades. The story moves between the 1930s and 1980s, tracing an unresolved killing and the long-hidden truths it exposes, while blues music runs through the lives of the characters. Joshua Boone plays Bayou, with Amirah Vann as Hattie Mae, Solea Pfeiffer as Leanne, Ryan Eggold as Ira, Austin Scott as Willie Earl and Milauna Jackson as Citsy.
Tyler Perry wrote, directed and produced the film through Tyler Perry Studios. It is the nineteenth of the twenty-nine films he has directed in chronological order, arriving between Tyler Perry's A Madea Homecoming in 2022 and Mea Culpa in 2024. The film runs 127 minutes.
Released in September 2022, the film holds an IMDb rating of 6.8 from roughly 4,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.4 from about 152 votes. The larger IMDb sample points to a moderately received drama, and the higher TMDB figure rests on a much smaller group of viewers.
