Emma and Josh are a married couple who have let parenting and their careers push their intimacy to the side. When their children leave for summer camp for the first time, the couple find themselves alone in the house and hope to use the free time to reconnect. Their attempts to bring the spark back lead them into a series of experiments, from a threesome with a friend to a visit to a swingers' club, and the couple soon find that trying to rebuild a marriage in overdrive is more exhausting and complicated than they expected.
The End of Sex is a Canadian comedy drama directed by Sean Garrity, working from a screenplay by Jonas Chernick. It followed Garrity's Zooey & Adam and My Awkward Sexual Adventure, and preceded The Burning Season. Chernick plays Josh opposite Emily Hampshire as Emma, with Gray Powell, Lily Gao, Melanie Scrofano and Eden Cupid among a credited cast of twenty-seven.
The film runs 87 minutes. Audience responses have been modest: on IMDb it holds a rating of 5.1 from 853 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.6 from 29 votes. Both figures point to a limited, mixed reception rather than a wide embrace of the film.
