Mission: Impossible

A team of American intelligence agents is sent to stop the sale of a stolen list revealing the identities of covert operatives. The operation collapses, several members of the team are killed, and the survivor, Ethan Hunt, finds himself suspected of being the traitor responsible. Hunt's superior Jim Phelps is among the dead, and Phelps's wife Claire is the only other member of the group left alive. Hunt sets out to identify the real mole and clear his name, assembling a small group of former agents to help him. Brian De Palma directed the film, the seventeenth of twenty-four features in his career in chronological order, following Carlito's Way and preceding Snake Eyes. The screenplay was written by David Koepp and Robert Towne, and Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner produced. Cruise leads the cast as Hunt, with Jon Voight as Phelps, Emmanuelle Béart as Claire, Henry Czerny as Kittridge, Jean Reno as Krieger and Ving Rhames as Luther. Fifty-five cast members and 164 crew members are credited. Made for 80 million US dollars, the film took 458 million US dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget. It holds a rating of 7.2 out of 10 on IMDb from 515,000 votes and 7 out of 10 on TMDB from 10,276 votes, while film critics gave it 6.9 out of 10 from 168 reviews, placing professional and audience assessments close together.
