The Man with the Iron Fists
Short description
Set in feudal China, The Man with the Iron Fists follows a blacksmith in a remote village who forges weapons for anyone able to pay. Rival clans vie for power and gold, and the blacksmith and the villagers are drawn into their conflict. When the stranger Jack Knife arrives, the tensions escalate, and the blacksmith is forced to defend himself and the community he has joined.
The film was directed by RZA, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Eli Roth. It was RZA's first time directing a feature, followed in his filmography by Cut Throat City and later titles. Quentin Tarantino, Marc Abraham and Eric Newman produced. RZA plays the Blacksmith, with Russell Crowe as Jack Knife, Lucy Liu as Madame Blossom, Dave Bautista as Brass Body, Pam Grier as Jane and Jamie Chung as Lady Silk.
The Man with the Iron Fists was released in 2012 and runs 96 minutes. Produced by Universal Pictures, Strike Entertainment, China Film Co-Production Corporation and Arcade Pictures on a budget of 15 million USD, it took 21 million USD worldwide. What's left behind the scenes
- When Russell Crowe walks through the room, he puts on glasses, but before he reaches the door, the glasses fall off. However, when he opens the door for Madame Blossom, his glasses are back in place.
- The first rough cut of the film was 4 hours long. Director RZA wanted to split the material into two feature films, but co-writer and producer Eli Roth disagreed. As a result of painstaking work, the filmmakers managed to reduce the film's length to a reasonable 90 minutes.
- Russell Crowe agreed to star in the film as a favor to director and screenwriter RZA, because he had previously given rap lessons to athletes from the Australian professional rugby team "South Sydney Rabbitohs," which Crowe co-owns.
- The Wilhelm scream can be heard when Tadeusz throws a man off the balcony.
- It took RZA and Eli Roth over two years to work on the film's script, during which they refined every aspect of the plot and every detail of the weapons used.
- RZA wrote the role he appeared in specifically for himself. Two months before filming began, he even started learning one of the styles of wushu, practicing for an hour or two each day.
