John Lyshitski has spent much of his life in and out of prison, and he blames the judge who kept sending him there. When he gets out and goes looking for revenge, he finds the judge has died, so he turns his attention to the judge's son, Nelson Biederman IV, an entitled young man with no idea what is coming. John arranges for Nelson to be sent to prison and then gets himself locked up alongside him, the better to watch his plan unfold from close range.
Let's Go to Prison is a 2006 American comedy directed by Bob Odenkirk, the first of the two features he has directed, followed by Movie 43. Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant and Michael Patrick Jann wrote the screenplay, and Dax Shepard and Will Arnett lead the cast as John and Nelson, with Chi McBride, David Koechner, Dylan Baker and Michael Shannon in supporting roles. The film was made for about 4 million dollars and took in roughly 5 million worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 3.3 out of 10 from 40 reviews, while on TMDB it sits at 6 out of 10 from 377 votes, a wide gap between critics and the audience. The modest budget and the small return suggest the film found only a limited theatrical audience.
