Short description
In Tree Hill, North Carolina two half brothers share a last name and nothing else. Brooding, blue-collar Lucas is a talented street-side basketball player, but his skills are appreciated only by his friends at the river court. Popular, affluent Nathan basks in the hero-worship of the town, as the star of his high school team. And both boys are the son of former college ball player Dan Scott whose long ago choice to abandon Lucas and his mother Karen, will haunt him long into his life with wife Deb and their son Nathan.

What's left behind the scenes
- Lucas lives at 1829 Barnette Drive, Tree Hill, NC, 01982. This can be seen on one of the letters Brooke wrote to Lucas.
- In November 2017, it became known that Hilarie Burton left the series due to harassment by Mark Schwahn; for the same reason, the actress did not return to the final season as a guest star.
- After the third season, the WB and UPN channels merged to form The CW.
- The title of the series is not only the location where the events take place, but also the title track from U2's famous album 'The Joshua Tree'. The show's creator, Mark Schwahn, decided to give the series the same name as the song. Many other episodes are titled using the same principle—music lovers will easily recognize paraphrased or direct quotes from songs by famous artists such as Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, The Cure, Bruce Springsteen, and others. Most of these songs belong to the punk-rock genre, which reflects the musical preferences of the character named Peyton.
- The gym where the school basketball team's games and practices take place was not filmed on a set, but in the actual gym of the school that Michael Jordan attended.
- During the filming of the show's first season, actress Moira Kelly was pregnant. Therefore, the creators sent her character to a culinary school in Italy for several episodes.
- The project was originally conceived as a television movie titled 'Ravens'. Later, network executives decided that the plot had great potential and gave the green light to a larger project.
- Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush met on the set of the series and married on April 16, 2005. However, their marriage proved unstable, and they soon divorced.
