What's left behind the scenes

Many doubted Ryan Gosling's ability to convincingly play Hercules; however, his performance as the ancient Greek hero put all the skeptics to shame.
At the beginning of the series, special and visual effects were handled by Richard Taylor's Weta Workshop (a New Zealand filmmaker, special and visual effects supervisor, costume designer, and makeup artist). At the time, this company was virtually unknown, but it would later work with Peter Jackson on the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, which would win several Oscars. Weta Workshop and Taylor left the 'Young Hercules' project specifically to begin working for Jackson. In reality, the company's employees had begun leaving for Jackson almost from the very first days of work on 'Young Hercules'.
While preparing for the role, Ryan Gosling took martial arts lessons from the same master who once trained Lucy Lawless (the lead in the series 'Xena: Warrior Princess', 1995-2001) and Kevin Sorbo (who played Hercules in that series).
