Short description

Charlie Logan has carried a curse since childhood, when he refused to kiss a girl who then put a spell on him. Now a successful dentist, he discovers that every woman he sleeps with goes on to meet her true love in the very next man she dates. Word of his reputation spreads, and women seeking husbands begin pursuing him deliberately. The arrangement suits Charlie until he meets Cam Wexler, a clumsy penguin specialist, and realizes that acting on his feelings for her would mean losing her to someone else.

Mark Helfrich directed the film, working from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg, with Barry Katz, Tracey Edmonds and Mike Karz producing. Dane Cook plays Charlie and Jessica Alba plays Cam, with Dan Fogler as Charlie's friend Stu. The production was a Canada-United States co-production made for a budget of 25 million US dollars, and it took in about 60 million US dollars worldwide.

Good Luck Chuck was released on September 21, 2007, and runs 96 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 from roughly 99,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 out of 10 from a much smaller base of about 1,700 votes. A critics' rating of 3.2 out of 10 from 111 reviews places professional assessment well below the audience scores. With 36 credited cast members, it is a mid-budget studio comedy that found a modest theatrical audience despite weak reviews.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Jennifer Love Hewitt could have gotten the role of Cam.
  • The film's script was originally titled "The Warm-Up Guy".
  • In one of the beach scenes, Dane Cook wore a "Super Club" cap. In the film "My Date with Destiny", Dane Cook's character worked at a "Super Club" store.
  • Chuck and Stu work at the Seltaeb medical corporation. If you read that word backwards, you get "beatles". It was to the tune of The Beatles that the corporation named Seltaeb was registered in 1964.
  • Another allusion to The Beatles is on the film's poster, where Chuck and Cam parody the famous photo from the cover of "Rolling Stone" magazine, which featured John Lennon and Yoko Ono in the same pose.
