Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj

Taj Mahal Badalandabad, the Indian student first seen alongside Van Wilder, has finished his degree at Coolidge College and crosses the Atlantic to continue his studies at the old English institution of Camford. He hopes to follow in his father's footsteps by earning a doctorate and by joining a prestigious campus society. That plan collapses when the society's leader, Pip, turns him away, so Taj gathers the students the university dismisses as hopeless and founds a rival group of his own, setting up a contest against the established elite for a prize both sides want.

The film is a comedy with romantic elements, made for American studios including Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Myriad Pictures, Tapestry Films and Franchise Pictures. It was directed by Mort Nathan, following his 2002 feature Boat Trip; this is the second film in his directing career. Kal Penn returns as Taj, with Daniel Percival as Pip, Lauren Cohan as Charlotte, and Glen Barry, Anthony Cozens and Steven Rathman among the credited cast of twenty-one.

Released in December 2006, the film runs 97 minutes. Its worldwide box office came to about 6 million dollars. On IMDb it holds 4.8 out of 10 from roughly 25,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.1 out of 10 from 438 votes. A critics' rating of 2.9 out of 10 from 44 reviews sits well below both audience scores.
