Nine

Nine is a musical drama centred on Guido Contini, a celebrated Italian film director whose professional and personal lives have become tangled together. With production on his next feature about to start and no finished script, he looks for inspiration among the women around him: his wife Luisa, his mistress Carla, his muse Claudia, his costume designer and confidante Lilli, and his mother. The film follows his attempts to resolve both the stalled project and the relationships he has strained.

Rob Marshall directed, working from a screenplay by Anthony Minghella and Michael Tolkin. The film sits fourth in Marshall's directing career, between Memoirs of a Geisha and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Daniel Day-Lewis plays Guido, with Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench and Sophia Loren among the principal cast.

Made on a budget of about 80 million US dollars, the film took roughly 54 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from around 46,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.5 out of 10 from about 650 votes. A critics' rating of 5.4 out of 10 from 206 reviews places critical response close to the audience scores, with neither group rating it highly.
