Holy Motors

Holy Motors follows a single day in the life of Monsieur Oscar, a man who moves from one existence to the next. In each of these lives he takes on a completely different identity, appearing sometimes as a man, sometimes as a woman, sometimes young, sometimes old. He becomes a company chairman, a beggar, a killer, a monster, a worker, a family man. A white limousine carries him through Paris and its outskirts, driven by a blonde woman named Céline. Oscar is essentially alone, accompanied only by her. The film watches him step into each role as though it were a performance, though no cameras or crew are visible.

Leos Carax wrote and directed the film, which sits between Tokyo! and Annette in his filmography. Denis Lavant, a longtime collaborator of the director, plays Oscar and many of the other identities. The cast also includes Edith Scob, Eva Mendes, Kylie Minogue, Élise Lhomeau and Jeanne Disson. Carax assembled a crew of 54 and a credited cast of 43 for the production.

Released in 2012, Holy Motors was made for about 4 million USD and took roughly 2 million USD at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds 7/10 from 51,000 votes, and on TMDB it also has 7/10, from 1,303 votes. A film critics' rating of 8.3/10 from 185 reviews is noticeably higher than the audience scores.
