The Angels' Share

Robbie is a young father in Glasgow trying to leave his criminal past behind, but trouble keeps pulling him back. After narrowly avoiding prison, he is assigned to community service, where he meets Rhino, Albert and Mo. Their supervisor, Harry, introduces the group to whisky tasting, and it soon becomes clear that Robbie has an unusually refined palate for identifying rare and expensive malts. With his girlfriend Leonie raising their baby and old conflicts closing in, Robbie and his new friends hatch a plan to steal a valuable whisky from a distillery in the Highlands, a gamble that could give him a way out or drag him further into the life he is trying to escape.

Ken Loach directed the film, the sixteenth of the twenty features listed in his filmography, following Route Irish and preceding Jimmy's Hall. Paul Laverty wrote the screenplay and Rebecca O'Brien produced, a collaboration carried over from the director's earlier work. Paul Brannigan leads as Robbie, with Siobhan Reilly, John Henshaw, Gary Maitland, William Ruane and Jasmin Riggins among the cast of forty-three credited performers.
