Pootie Tang

Pootie Tang is a folk hero to children and a star to everyone else. He records hit songs, appears in films and, when needed, uses a magic belt to deal with criminals. His one-man campaign against greed and harmful products cuts into the profits of LecterCorp, so the company's head has the belt stolen and tries to turn Pootie into a pitchman for the very things he has fought. The film follows him from childhood onward as he tries to recover what was taken and become himself again.

Louis C.K. directed and wrote the screenplay, his second feature after Tomorrow Night, with Chris Rock, Caldecot Chubb and Louis C.K. producing. Lance Crouther plays Pootie Tang, and the cast includes JB Smoove, Jennifer Coolidge, Reg E. Cathey, Robert Vaughn and Wanda Sykes, among 55 credited performers. Made for about 7 million dollars, it returned roughly 3 million worldwide.

Audiences are divided on it: on IMDb it holds 5.3 out of 10 from about 16,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.1 out of 10 from 173 votes. A critics' rating of 3.7 out of 10 from 45 reviews places it well below even those modest audience scores.
